Oprah’s Pick – The last time they met Anita Shereev

I also read this entire book from cover to cover. It was about a love affair. Litterally a lifetime love affair between two people. Who did not end up marrying eachother, but two completely different people.

Through out their lifetime they would find ways to either contact eachother by letter or find a way to be together. At a party they came face to face while their spouses were at their sides. The man who she was having an affair with his wife finally knew the truth which devistated her.

I felt sorry for the woman. She had, had a miscarriage and her husband said after that she was never the same person. But he continued to have an affair with the other woman he loved her that much and was willing to risk it.

Nothing more mattered to the two having the affair than to being together. I would give this book 3 stars.

It was hard to sit and read though all the letters that were written back and forth while she was in Africa. It was as if I’d get done reading one letter and then I’d run into another letter or too many of them in the same chapter.

Other than that the book was ok. I wasn’t quite as intrigued by this one as I was with

Suite Francaise Irene Nemirovsky Oprah’s Pick

I am proud to say that I have completely read this book. I even read through “about the author” section. Even though it’s a horrible time in human history it was a well written book. There are a few surprises that I didn’t see coming in the pages also.

Irene Nemirovsky was an author who lived during the time period of the Nazi Era under Hitler’s rule of communism. Her two daughters had managed to escape Germany with their mother’s diary notes! Wow. Her diary notes were translated directly from her notes that were written in German.

There is a sweet love story that happens between a German soldier that has to stay in one of the residential homes with the homeowner, who’s husband is away. She does not love her husband. That however is not the only main focus in the book.

I would highly recommend getting this book, not because I am in a good mood, but because really it is a good book. It’s well told with real people’s names being used with the book being told in a fictional way on a real account of history.

In the back of the book the diary notes are written, with the real accounts of what happened while Irene was in Germany during that horrific time of history. I read through the entire book, the notes on the author and the diary notes as well. I can see why this book in particular would be an excellent one to read.

Review of Oprah’s book list – Tolle A New Earth

Review of Oprah’s book list – Tolle A New Earth

Now I admit that I haven’t completly read through the entire book yet. But I can tell you that so far I don’t llike what I have read about his book. I have read through about the first 18 pages. Basically it’s putting religion(s) and humanity down for their ego’s and dysfunctions. And that dysfunctions are hereditary. That what you believe in has nothing to do with how spiritual you are. We know as Christians that is not entirely true!Although Tolle has made a couple of good points, he’s made a majority of negative points. He is a spiritual teacher and counselor. There was another ‘review’ even though she didn’t call it a review it was a warning of his book to warn Christians of his teachings.

This book is also on Oprah’s book club list for reading. I wonder what Oprah’s opinion of this book was? I wonder if she reads all these books that she recommends to her audience. How in the world does she find the time??!! I don’t know how she does it. This is probably the most reading that I’ve done in the last two years or so. I have completed reading some other books as well.

I won’t get into it though. I am going to point out some statements in the book if you are considering buying it.

I welcome any comments if you have read the book.page 3
Some reptilians grew feathers and wings and turned into birds thus defying the force that held them for so long.

There is scripture that does not support this statement and that Adam and/or God together named all the mammals and birds in the garden. It makes it sound very closely that Tolle may believe in the Theory of Evolution?

HOW ZEN WAS DISCOVERED:
The smile, or “realization” was handed down by 28 masters and became known as Zen, because of a smile.

page 6
The messangers Buddha , Jesus and others not mentioned were humanities early flowers.

Flowers?

Jesus was a disciple and Son of God

Page 8
Talks about the ego being the main “enemy” and the workings of the ego how it will overtake you. It will trick you into identifying with it again and again.

I think I can see what he is talking about that the Ego going unchecked will take over you which is the key word there.

Page 8
Also says ‘you cannot fight against the ego and win, just as you cannot fight agianst darkness.

This statement I do not agree with and I don’t think that a lot of Christians will agree with this either:Page 9 Talks a little about Buddism.

Page 8 Talks about that we Inherit dysfunction:
That is true in part if we have a mental illness. Just because a family may have dysfunctions doesn’t mean that it will always be carried over to the next generation. Someone maybe suseptible to mental illness but they can make the ultimate decision to reverse that dysfunction if they have a strong enough will power.

Page 10
The mind is very intelligent but tainted by madness.

Tainted by madness?

Page 11
The collective manifestations of the insanity that lies at the heart of the human conditions constitute the GREATER part of human history.

when he is speaking of destruction – yes that would be true. Again not all hearts of all humans are destructive.

While there has been many wars fought throughout time, I find it really hard to believe that all human hearts are subject to insanity. The author makes points about the early war of 1914 and there after. Yes destruction is undeniable. But so is goodness. If you research all the good that’s gone on in the world there are thousands of examples.

Page 12
Important to realize that fear, greed and the desire for power are not the dysfunction that we are speaking of but are themselves created by the dysfunction which is deep seated collective dillusion of EACH HUMAN BEING. I completely disagree with that one.

Page 13
History of Communism – he has a good point.

Page 15
Division among religion
While that is true in many cases I disagree with that statement because in the case of Christianity where it is present has brought thousands of people together, just take a look at the numbers yourself. Sure, there will always be strife, but I try to look at the good that Christianity has also done.

Page 17
The more you make your thoughts (beliefs) into your identity, the more cut off you are from the spiritual dimension within yourself. (Disagree)

Faith (religion) is what you believe in. It does become a part of you. It’s the substance of things hoped for but unseen.

Maybe I will make this into a monthly project to read a few pages every week and do a monthly update of the points I agree or disagree with? How does that sound?
