The battle you are facing is not with the people around you. It’s with your thoughts. Depression comes when you begin to meditate on (or as my mom says “nurse and rehearse”) all of the negative things people have said or the difficult things that have happened.
The idea that you are worthless came straight from the pit of hell. If you have committed your life to Christ, you have been redeemed from the curse of the law. You are a child of God. You are a joint heir with Christ. You have Kingdom privileges. You need to change your thoughts to what God said and stop listening to the devil and people around you. Did you know that the devil’s only tactic is with thoughts? If he can get you to focus on the negative thoughts, you will soon start to believe them. Then you will start to speak them. Then you will start to act on them. The way to cut off negative thoughts is with your words and The Word.
Try this. Think a thought and then speak. Your mind stopped thinking the thought when you spoke. That’s a big way that you combat depression. When a negative thought comes, you speak God’s Word. You say “God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” (II Timothy 1:7).
Romans 8:1 – Therefore there is now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) to me because I am in Christ Jesus, and I live and walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has freed me from the law of sin and death.
Romans 12:2 – My mind is renewed by God’s Word and I hold the attitudes and ideals of God.
I Cor 2:16 – I have the mind of Christ and hold the thoughts, feelings and purposes of His Heart.
Put your trust in God not in man. People are going to fail you. We make mistakes. But God will never leave you nor forsake you. He will never let you go. He will never let you go through something you can’t handle. Philippians 4:6-7, John 14:27, Isaiah 41:10, Hebrews 13:5-6
The next thing to note is that praise is a powerful weapon against depression. Praise will remove the spirit of heaviness (Is 61:3). You can either start singing along to praise and worship music or you can just start speaking out statements of thanksgiving to God.
Thank you for a new day.
Thank you for a good night’s sleep.
Thank you for my warm blankets and comfy bed.
Thank you that my legs work well and I can go for a walk.
Thank you for my job.
Thank you for the opportunity to be a blessing to someone else.
Thank you for providing food for me today.
Thank you for the roof over my head.
Thank you for my family.
Thank you for your Word.
Thank you for teaching me to forgive and forget.
Thank you for loving me just as I am.
Thank you Jesus for dying on that cross for me. Thank you that your blood washed away all of my sins. Thank you for washing me clean. Thank you for making me whole, spirit soul and body.
I confess my sins now to you Father and I thank You that You are faithful and just to forgive my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness.
I thank You, Father, that you see me in Christ. You have forgotten my sins and you see me white as snow.
I no longer look back at the things in my past. I look forward and press toward the prize that God has prepared for me. God loves me. God love me. GOD LOVES ME!
That should be your declaration. God Loves Me and I’m going to be ok. Something good is going to happen to me today! I’m ok and I’m on my way! I’m blessed coming in and blessed going out! I let the peace of God rule and reign in my spirit, soul and body. I am more than a conqueror. I thank you Father that goodness, mercy, and unfailing love follow me all the days of my life. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. I am the head and not the tail. I am above and not beneath. Jesus came that I may have and ENJOY life, in abundance, to the full, until it overflows. I am not settling for just a so so life. I am going to live in abundance of happiness, joy and peace. God supplies all of my needs so I don’t have to worry. God contends with those who contend with me. He said “Touch not my annointed.” I’m the annointed of God and anyone who touches me will have to answer to God. The Blessing of Abraham is on me and it makes me rich.
I say this in love . . . Stop focusing on the bad things people have said or done and start focusing on God’s love for you and His promises for your life. You are wasting energy on all of these negative thoughts when you could be jump starting an exciting life in Christ if you would focus your energy on what the Word says. Write out the verses that tell you who you are in Christ and read them out loud at least twice a day. If you don’t know what they are, go to my website www.overflowliving.com where I have sections on this stuff. I also recommend that you get Joyce Meyer’s book, Battlefield of the Mind. This will teach you more in depth how to fight the battle of your thoughts. Jesus sticks closer than a brother. Right now you just stay close to Him and He will be your companion, friend, confidant, encourager, cheerleader, and biggest fan. Don’t worry about those who are or aren’t around you. Put God first and He will bring people across your path who will be the true friends you have been looking for.
I expect to hear a good report really soon!
